Sometimes it helps to think of it without all those labels - such as top, bottom, Dom, sub. So, let's ask the same question in a different way. Is a full time student more genuine than a part time student?

Is a part time student to be judged poorly because he or she wants more time to do other things?

To me, i appreciate anyone - Top or Dom or Bottom or Submissive or Nilla - who can look at BDSM with a clear perspective and see it in a positive light. I'm quite alright with them calling it sexual fun.

In our society BDSM, whether "full-time" (so-called) or part-time is trangressive. One can imagine a culture where it would be normative rather than transgressive. Transgression adds a certain dimension of danger, glamour, and escape.

Is an ethical Top more Authentic than an ethical Dominant? I don't think so. The notion seems to imply a kind of elitism . . . I am very much in agreement with Mistress Raine, if we live it with integrity, we are all real - for more thoughts . . . http://dsinvegas.blogspot.com/2009/07/authenticity.html

No matter what your role in the BDSM lifestyle is...it is authentic to you. Just because someone lives it 24/7 does not make them "more real" or "more authentic"...Not everyone is able to live this lifestyle 24/7 and some do not want to! This lifestyle to me, is about choices and trust and not who lives it and how they live or even why they do, it is an individual need that needs to be fulfilled. MistressRaine
